A member asked:

How long does heroin stay in the placenta?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I don't believe it: accumulates in the placenta, any differently than any other tissue. Heroin is a very short acting drug, and heroin itself only lasts a few hours. Its metabolites can be found in blood and tissue for perhaps 6-8 hours, and urine tests can remain positive for metabolites for a couple of days. I am not aware that placentas are checked for drugs - usually its meconium in the baby (its first stool).
