is oxycontin the same as heroin?

No: They are different chemicals but both are addictive. Oxycontin is legal by presription and heroin is illegal.

They bind to the same brain receptors and have similar effects. The fact that one is legal (if prescribed to you) and the other illegal really is irrelevant in terms of addiction. Sometimes we can be tempted to think of some drugs as "good" and others as "bad," or some better or worse than others, but any addictive substances will create the same chaos and misery if we become addicted. There is help available if you or a loved on has a problem.
