Even years: Most cancers, apart from field change cancers, tend to start from a single cell which multiplies by division. Some divide very slowly. A small cancer within testicle can take a long time before it is detected. Not all testicular tumors present as a hard lump which is esay to detect. (field change tumors occur in lining of urinary tract, especially bladder, or lung after exposure to carcinogens).
