New approaches: Zolpidem (Ambien), while undeniably effective, has a deserved reputation as a problematic medication with a broad array of side effects, some severe. The risk of side effects goes up sharply with dose. It would be best to seek alternative approaches to your sleep problem. Ask your doctor to send you to a specialist with experience treating chronic insomnia.

I have to: be honest....Zolipidem is NOT a very good sleeping pill for many people...next day drowsiness  (as well as "sleep walking") are unfortunately quite common! when the larger dose is used and lower doses are often ineffective!)

Zolpidem dose: Recommended dose of Zolpidem for females is 5 mg. You can require higher dose and your doctor can increase the dose gradually after making sure that you do not have any side effect. Other medications are available for insomnia if Zolpidem does not work. I hope it helps.

Other medications: Using Ambien (zolpidem) non-stop for that long would be expected to not work after awhile, because tolerance has likely developed.  Ask your doctor about other possible medications that might pertain to your own case.  I'm not sure if your sleep disturbance has been fully evaluated, as to why you need a medication like that for such an extended period?  A sleep medicine doc and/ or psychiatrist could help.

Ambien (zolpidem): Regular release Ambien (zolpidem) comes in 5mg. &amp; 10mg. The continuous-release form Ambien (zolpidem)-CR comes in 6.25mg. &amp; 12.5mg.
