Asymptomatic=: No symptoms.  Holes may evolve into detachment. They are generally less serious than retinal tears.   Floaters on the other hand occur as the vitreous gel becomes liquid.  They are not dangerous but occur often times along with tears in the retina or holes.  It is unlikely that you can even detect the hole in your vision.  Dilated eye exam is critical to monitor  these types of retinal defects.

Vitreous issues: The eye is full of material called vitreous.  When we are young, this vitreous is a solid gel.  As we age, it liquefies starting in the center.  Bits of the gel float in the liquid and we see this as floaters.  When the central gel becomes liquid, the outer part peels away from the retinal surface.  This can cause traction on the retina, which is experienced as flashing lights.

i just got a nephrostomy tube put in yesterday. there is now white flake/string like stuff floating around in the bag (not a lot). is that normal?

Here are some ...: What you saw in the bag could be "normally" expected as long as urine is draining and you're comfortable &amp; afebrile but soreness from the procedures. For more details, ask your treating Doc timely.

how can i preparing myself for a pet scan? i am going to have a pet scan done soon and i wanted to know what to expect.  what are they? what do they look like? what do they detect? does it hurt? does it involve a tube like an mri does?

PET : Pet imaging is based on the positron-emitting radionuclide fluorine-18 (f-18), which is used as a labelling tracer on a glucose molecule that is injected intravenously before the scan. This labeled glucose molecule concentrates in areas of high metabolic activity such as tumor cells. F-18 decay releases a positron, which annihilates with a nearby electron, to produce two photons that leave the body in opposite directions and are detected by a ring of detectors. The raw data are reconstructed by a computer into cross-sectional images of the body. Many new pet scanners are hybrid instruments that combine a pet scanner with a ct scanner for combined anatomic and physiologic imaging. A patient couch runs through both scanning assemblies, and computer software fuses the two sets of images.

Before the scan, patients fast for 4 to 6 hours, and exercise is avoided for 24 hours. The radiotracer will be injected intravenously, and there may be mild pain or discomfort when the technologist first places the iv. Following the injection, the patient typically rests quietly for about one hour, without moving or talking. Just before the scan, the bladder is emptied either by voiding or by catheterization. During the scan, the patient lies on the back with arms either overhead or at the sides, depending on what body part is being examined and what position is best tolerated. The ct scan takes only about 2 minutes, and the pet scan takes between 30-60 minutes, depending on the anatomy covered.

i had my tubes tied six years ago and here recently when i got a pelvic ultrasound done they said it didn't look like my tubes were tied...i've had no?

Probable error: Since it is not likely that the patency of a Fallopian tube can be determined by a sonographic exam, it seems probable that  "they made an error" or that you were simply misinformed . A hysterosalpingogram (not a pelvic ultrasound)  is the usual XRay test that can reveal that your tubes were or "were not tied".

i was floating in my pool on a plastic inner tube and when i went to get off and lifted my arm up,it hurt because the skin had stuck to the plastic.now i notice a small patch of petechiae on it could that be caused by the trauma when peeled off?

Yes petechiae: Yes, minor trauma can cause disruption to small capillaries. A bit of sun burn could add to the likelihood

i am breast feeding and have inverted nipples.  when done nursing, they do look like a new tube of lipstick. is baby still latching and eating ok?

Probably: Inverted nipples usually do not interfere. The efficiency is best judged by the baby's response-sleeping comfortably, diaper wetness and -over time- weight gain.

how to compare the number of floaters? i've got my laser barrage done on 13th may. i had floaters in my visual field before that too. and now i feel like they might have increased slightly or have i become conscious about them?

: You should call your retina specialist if you think you see more floaters because it is considered a complication of laser therapy.
