Cause?: Sometimes the lymph nodes are swollen from an infection in the head/neck area.  If that's the case then the underlying infection needs to be treated.  Sometimes the lymph nodes themselves are infected.  You should see your doctor or an Urgent Care to get treated.

In mid neck tumor can arise from metastatic thyroid and in supraclavicular fossa , an upward spread from lungs.  Biopsy if persistent or enlarging can show lymphoma, infection or tumor metastatic tumor.
