Bacterial vaginosis?: Contrary to common belief, yeast infections don't smell. The main cause of strong vaginal odor, which is often fishy, is bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of mostly vaginal bacteria. Trichomonas, an STD, also can do it. Other STDs (gonorrhea, chlamydia) are more common in women with BV, but of course only if at risk for STD. Return to your doctor and ask about BV and maybe STD testing. Good luck!

Yeast: You can try using any topical antifungal cream to treat the yeast infection but if it does not improve within 24-48 hours, you should have your doctor look at it to be sure it is really yeast and not anything else.

No: Your C-section and yeast infection came after your baby passed through the birth canal.  His/her symptoms are probably normal but you should take him/her to the pediatrician.

I'm so sorry. It's: Great that you're continuing to breastfeed. If the yeast is on your nipples &/or in baby's mouth, please talk to your pediatrician & OB for treatment for both of you. It can be hard to get rid of. Also, call the birth hospital's nursery for the name of a lactation consultant who can help you. Gas & spitting up may not be related, but it seems both of you are uncomfortable. You're a trooper!

: Odors are gasses produced by bacteria feeding in the area. One important factor in treating such areas is lifting the skin away and getting it dry several times a day with a hair dryer. Moisture from sweat feeds the problem. Keeping the area clean (soap/water) and dry will help. Another exam may be necessary to plan a way to resolve the mess.

Yes, thrush: If the infection is untreated it is possible for him to get oral thrush which is a yeast infection in the mouth most commonly seen in children.
