Fluconazole: It sounds like your doctor understands vaginal yeast infections very well. A single oral dose of fluconazole (Diflucan) is a very common and highly effective treatment. Your discharge (and itching) should begin to improve in 2-3 days.

Fungus anomg us: Yeast infections also known as monilia, candida, and fungus, are treated with Clotrimazole creams vaginally. However, resistant organisms are not always "cured" and may require an additional agent.

BV? Foreign body?: Probably not yeast, or maybe yeast plus something else. Yeast infections usually itch but odor is uncommon, and brown discharge doesn't fit very well. Strong vaginal odor usually means bacterial vaginosis, an overgroth of mostly normal bacteria. But BV is rare in virgins, although it can follow oral sex. A foreign body, like a forgotten tampon, can do this. Stop guessing; see a doctor ASAP.

Vaginal yeast: You do not need to be sexually active to have a vaginal yeast infection.  It can occur after taking antibiotics, or from other things that alter the normal vaginal flora.   As well, your symptoms may be something else, though nothing serious!  You can certainly try an over the counter preparation for this, but , if symptoms persist, you should see your provider.

Yes, but it may be: ...overkill.  Fluconazole &amp; Neosten both treat yeast vaginitis, altho resistance can rarely occur.  The antibiotic cefuroxine is NOT used to treat yeast infections.  Antibiotics can kill of healthy vaginal bacteria and allow yeast to take over.  Perhaps your doctor was treating something else as well.  All of these meds are considered safe after the 1st trimester.  Dr. Anne

: Research has indicated that oral probiotics in conjunction with fluconazole may help in the treatment of yeast vaginitis. It should be safe to take probiotics with fluconazole. However, if at anytime during treatment you experience side effects you should contact the prescribing physician immediately or go to an Urgent Care Center. I wish you well with your health!
