Overall fitness: You'll need to have very little body fat from diet and aerobic exercise, and also do some specific training of the abdominal muscles. This is easier to do now than at any other time in your life because of your growth spurt and increasing levels of testosterone. It would be great if dad or some other positive experienced men would be your coaches as you undertake this.

: With even "mild" PCOS, ovulation is delayed, causing delays in menses of considerable duration.  While taking oral bcp's, some protection against constant estrogen stimulation of the endometrium is provided, but punctuality is required to avoid "spotting". The bleeding from a bcp cycle is not a post-ovulatory event, and is usually mild.

Not too early 4 UPT!: Urine pregnancy tests (upts) have a 90% sensitivity for pregnancy detection even within  one day of late period; this increases to 99-100% after a week of missed period. Take Folic Acid 1-5 mg daily and check a upt soon to put your mind a ease.  You should see your gynecologist for preconceptional care.

The old-fashioned wy: You still need to do lots of core work to get the definition of the muscles, and cardio or dieting - to burn off/lose any overlying layers of fat. Being 16 years old - you have the advantage of youth, which allows most young people to lose weight and gain definition a little bit more 'easily' (though I am not saying it's easy) than say...A 43 year old ;-).

NO: Congratulations on stopping smoking! smoking significantly impairs fertility and increases the chance of miscarriage but the ill effects of smoking are generally reversible and within a year of stopping the adverse effects on fertility should be reversed. Avoid second-hand smoke, as that also impairs fertility!

About time: To quit smoking and a great start if you have a quit plan in place. With 12 pack years of smoking you will start having lung damage with certain risk factors. Not on COPD but think of lung cancer and cancer at other sites as well. Quit when you can still undo lot of the damage.
