i'm on allegra 180mg in the morning, xyzal (levocetirizine) 5mg at night, plus dymista and immun shots, and i still get a lot of white mucus when i do a sinus rinse why?

Accepted Answer

Some mucus is normal: Your therapies are to control symptoms, but your upper respiratory mucosa is still functional. If sneezing, congestion, runny nose, etc are controlled then i would not be overly concerned with the nasal wash results.

i took allegra this morning thinking i was suffering from allergies. but, it didn't help my headache and stuffiness at all . so, can i take a dose of alka-seltzer plus sinus and cold? or should i wait until tomorrow?

: There is no interaction between Allegra and Alka Seltzer Sinus and Cold.
You can take it this evening if you want.

i am taking allegra 180mg and zyrtec 10mg plus using nasacort (triamcinolone) nasal spray for seasonal allergies. can i safely continue that or is it too much?

Safe but: if you need that much medication to control your symptoms, it may be time for you to consult an allergist. I also suspect that even the combined medications do not offer you complete relief.

i am having a severe reaction to poison oak.  i am already taking 20 mg/day of prednisone midday, with 60 mg of allegra, plus 60 mg of allegra around midnight.  (all since saturday).  my rash is still spreading.  swelling has gone down significantly, but

Contamination: You are likely still having contact with the resin. You need to clean up every article which might have contacted poison oak with dish detergents (wear gloves while during it). This includes the interior of your car , the steering wheel, shoes, clothing etc.  Otherwise your rash will act up again after stopping the prednisone.

ALLERGIC SX?: Your sx seems allergic in origin but allergic rx did not help. Its time to see md after 6  weeks of the above problems.

Yes: For non-sedating AH, you can take up to 4x a day.

Most likely: But this would make side effects more likely - dry mouth and eyes for example, perhaps sedation / tiredness. Might think of mixing medicines from different classes if bad allergies are the issue. A primary care provider can help in this regard.

Accepted Answer

Expired medication: Typically, when a medication expires, it's because it loses its potency or effectiveness.  There are some medications that, with time, do breakdown with time into harmful substances.  Check with your pharmacist to make sure.  I would not recommend taking any expired medication.

Allegra:  Allegra tablet can be cut. Allegra D should not be cut, chewed or crushed. It should be taken whole. Allegra  gelcap  should not be cut, chewed or crushed either.

what if i took two allegra (fexofenadine)?

Accepted Answer

Avoid doing this: Allegra (fexofenadine) is sold in both 60 mg doses taken twice a day, and a 180 mg dose taken once a day.  There is not good data on taking twice the dose at one time.  Avoid doing it.  If your allergy symptoms are not controlled with the fda recommended dosing, see an allergist.  There are certain situations when i prescribe other dosing.
