pills. i stopped taking xanax (alprazolam) a  month ago, not bc pills. will 
prolactin go down now?

You'll find out soon: Go to f/u with your doctor and see it that happens. If not, your doctor should find other possibilities that are related to your hyperprolactininemia. At least in 2 studies -published at neuropsychobiology journal and hum. Psychopharmacology journal - xanax (alprazolam) have been linked to elevation of prolactin level- but i think overall risk of hyperprolactinemia associated to xanax (alprazolam) only about 1% or so.

Yes: Xanax (alprazolam) should be used infrequently due to its addicting nature.  Speak with your doctor for another remedy.

Accepted Answer

NO: Nortel 777 may result it Xanax staying in your body a longer time and thus you may not need to take as much Xanax, but Xanax is not known to reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
I strongly advise all taking birth control pills also take a good multivitamin such as ONE Multivitamin from Pure Encapsulations.

Am unaware of issues: With any form of oral contraception and the medications listed.  The decision should be based on your lifestyle issues, preferences, potential side effects and cost.  Your family physician or an ob/gyn (or np/pa-c, as the case may be) can better advise you.  It is probably going to be more of an issue in terms of other habits, particularly smoking.  If you smoke cigarettes, ocps are more risky.

Yes, bc decreased: Alprazolam oral and levonorgestrel-ethinyl estrad oral

Alprazolam oral will increase the level or effect of levonorgestrel-ethinyl estrad oral by mechanism: the metabolism of the drug is decreased. May increase drug side effects; especially drowsiness.

Xanax (alprazolam): There is controversy in research about this, but some data shows that xanax (alprazolam) can be associated with oral clefts in infants.  Babies born when mothers use xanax (alprazolam) will also be born habituated to the drug, and may go through withdrawal.
