would quitting smoking help my folliculitis or have no effect whatsoever? i am currently quitting. i heard smoking can slow down the healing process?

Please quit: At age 23, you think nothing will hurt you. My high school friends who starred are now dying of it. Sometimes pityrospirum causes folliculitis and if targeted by antifungal Meds is an easy cure. Bacterial folliculitis is harder. Quit smoking for its own sake.

Folliculitis: Couple of suggestions  - avoid the triple and quad razors - they tend to cut the follicle off below the skin - creating the possibility of an ingrown hair.   I usually recommend a good otc facial scrub  that helps refresh the skin and cuts down on blind pores.  Any good acne wash will help reduce the level of skin bacteria as well.  A clean fresh razor will also help.

Yes: yes with soap and water it will resolve  Sometimes it will just resolve sometimes with OTC antibiotic creams.  If no resolution then may need oral antibiotics to clear it

Other folliculitis: Causes of folliculitis may be both infectious and non-infectious.  Most athletes will develop frictional irritation on their folds and thighs and aggressive shaving causing shaving bumps are both types of non-infectious folliculitis.  The cause must be avoided in these cases.  Pts on antibiotics for long periods of time, may develop pityrosporum folliculitis, also fungal, viral. Biopsy and culture.

how do i clear up scalp folliculitis?

Medicated shampoo: Typically I have patients try an over the counter medicated shampoo such as head and shoulders or Nizoral (ketoconazole) to start, but if that is not effective, i give them a prescription shampoo and sometimes a topical antibiotic to control this pesky condtion. There not a cure for folliculitis, but rather patients can control it with proper meds.

i just finished my 2nd consecutive script or oral clindamycin for 14 days!  my folliculitis on my stomach is not totally cleared up!  what can i do?

Poor treatment: Find a better Dr, preferably a dermatologist. Do not take any more clindamycin.  Usually treatment of folliculitis requires months of treatment, maybe years. I wonder if you even have a correct diagnosis because the treatment does not reflect good medical judgement.

scalp folliculitis gone after 1 week of vibramycin 100mg/day i kept taking it for another week.all cleared but back again.how long should i keep takng?

Scalp dermatitis: Would call you doctor and tell them. is it bacterial or fungal/ eczema?  If fungal perhaps they can prescribe a shampoo that has antifungal effects like Nizoral.  Would t follow up with  dermatology as well.

Seborrhea: There are few reasons why you might have such a condition.
Try using Shampoo containing Ketocanazole, as it helps in sorting few of these conditions.
However, if the condition persists you might need to see your doctor or a skin specialist; you mentioned the word "Folliculitis" and this might be caused by infectious organisms.

It could: take weeks.Where is the folliculitis? If on your legs,are you changing razors frequently?
