i had a steroid injection today for costochondritis. how long will this stay in my system? how long will it effect my immune system? i am worried because of the covid pandemic?

: Corticosteroids injected into the tissues of the body can last a.month or more in your system and reduce your immunity ability during that time. Be vigilant about any infections you may develop or anyone with measles,chickenpox,or shingles you may have been exposed to during that period of time and report them to your physician promptly for advice.

is costochondritis forever ? had this now 8 months no relief . what can i do? nsaids and steroids don't work. acupuncture ?

Maybe not.:  Pain in the ribs, can be caused by costochondritis, but can also be caused by other conditions, the most common of which is probably postherpetic neuralgia, which is due to a previous a pack of shingles. I many occasions, people do not even see the rash. You need re-evaluated. It would be helpful to hear more history. What is the pain like, what aggravates it. Is it  Is there tenderness to touch?

Yes: Although injections of this type may work in 1-7 days, it may take up to 3 weeks. Be patient and continue activity as able in the meantime.

This is not a good: topical for scars. injections work better than topicals for scars, but if you use a topical it should be  a high potency one not mid potency like triamcinolone. hope that helps

i have had plantar fasciitis for nearly six months. i am on painkillers which don't work much and i have had unsuccessful steroid injection. what should i try next?

See below: Pain killers do not solve problem and can cause other problems. Sometimes more than one injection is required to provide effective relief, although if 3 do not help, i would not consider any more. Plantar fasciitis is causes by excess tension or plantar fascia often from poor biomechanical support. Treatment should be directed at lessening tension and providing more support. Stretching and support.

i had a steroid injection at base of r thumb for trigger thumb today. my thumb still locks and i'm wondering if this means the injection did not work. how long until cortisone kicks-in and stops the thumb triggering and locking?

Varies: The results from an epidural steroid injection can vary tremendously.  Some people do well for even a year, while others may get only temporary benefit.  If an epidural steroid injection does not work, there are other alternatives which can be discussed either with your surgeon or an interventional pain specialist.

when will the pain ease with dexamethasone via iontophoresis? i am having pt for knee pain. the dr gave me a steroid injection that did not work at all. today the pt gave me dexamethasone via iontophoresis. no reduction of pain but not sure timeline?
