why is c. diff most dangerous for a young or elderly patient?

Can be life threaten: C.Diff colitis causes diarrhea and dehydration. But what is important is that it can cause the colon wall to be sick enough to lose integrity and infection from the stools can go to the blood causing sepsis. In these rare severe cases the life threatening nature of the disease may require removal of the whole colon for the person to survive.

going to be tested for c diff after antibiotic use. if i end up being tx for it, is it okay to try for pregnancy next month? recurrence risk? worried!

C diff: If your treatment for c diff is successful as determined by follow-up stool culture and you feel healthy, I don't see why you shouldn't attempt to get pregnant. If you have to stay on medications, then you should ask your obgyn for advice on this matter.

Uncertain: We commonly use Macrobid during pregnancy.  This is considered a safe medication.  I cannot imagine how this would cause a c. Diff infection in the newborn.  This is a question that should be directly asked of the doctors caring for this child.

i am not a patient but i have c-diff. am on 500 mg metronidazole every 12 hrs for 5 days and still sick. how long before i can feel better.  how long ?

C diff : Based on best evidence the dosing for c diff if your pretty symptomatic should be every six to eight hours. Also you should be taking probiotics about three times a day, again good evidence supports this. Usually it takes 5-7 days for symptoms to subside with adequate treatment. How ever can last up to 2 weeks. If not improved or getting worse see your doctor again to go over treatment options

i work in a hospital and am taking bactroban in my nares for staph. patient on floor might have had c diff. should i be worried cause im on bactroban?

C diff: No you don’t have to worry. C. Diff is not easily transmitted if proper precautions are used, Enron so Bactroban in the nose is not a risk factor

i'm 27 wks. pregnant have a gbs uti   colony of 100,000 (again).  ob prescribed clindamycin without testing it, and ignored my concern of c-diff. ?

No urgency to treat: Unless you have symptoms of UTI(frequent urination, pain or urgency to urinate), you do not have to rush into taking antibiotics. Clindmycin is rarely used for UTI. You may be better of seeking a second opinion from a primary care doctor(Family Practice or Internist) who can be more careful in making a decision whether you have UTI or a contamination and which antibiotic is safer in pregnancy.

Yes: This would be a very challenging and complex problem to manage, but it is possible for a comatose patient who is otherwise stable to continue a pregnancy to term.

Miscarriage: I am not sure what you mean by reject. Miscarriages are very common and the risk decreases the further one gets in the pregnancy. After 12 weeks the risk is less than 5%

Exercise in pregnanc: Exercise in pregnancy has been accepted as a positive thing as it makes labor easier and may make it easier to recover your pre pregancy weight.  Late in pregnancy, the change in weight alters balance and makes some athletic activities difficult.  Regarding running some concern has been raised regarding temperature elevations of the fetus in the first trimester as causing potential problems.

You can use: Lotrimin (clotrimazole) cream 2x per day for 1 week. Ringworm is not a worm; it is a fungal skin infection and is treated with topical medication. You should, however, clear this with your doctor.
