Vagifem: Vagifem really is just really an estrogen for atrophic vaginitis. However, taking systemic estrogen like estradiol, premarin, (conjugated estrogens) vivelle dot, etc does have the effect of increasing bone density and preventing osteoporosis.  Once you have osteoporosis though, you are best off using a medication specifically for it like fosamax, actonel, forteo, etc.

i am a 48 year old woman with osteoporosis. not on any meds. need a lower right simple wisdom tooth extraction. should i be concerned in any way ?

Possible concern: A group of drugs called bisphosphonates are commonly prescribed to treat osteoporosis.  Sometimes oral medications are prescribed and sometimes a person receives these medications through an iv.  Depending upon which method and duration of the bisphosphonate treatment there can be varying chances for an extraction site that doesn't heal properly.  It is best to talk to your dentist.

How is her diet?: U r absolutely right about the new controversy regarding calcium supplements and cardiac risk, but it does not say anything about calcium in diet/foods. So, consuming calcium rich foods will reduce need to take supplement. Also, vitamin use can improve absorption of calcium. But, she should check with her doc for a possible scan to how her done is at this time, then treatment. Good luck.

Yes: Estrogen deprivation (you've had your ovaries removed or they don't work) or exposure to certain medicines (eg, anti-psychotics, seizure medicines, steroids) can cause osteoporosis in women in their 30's. However, if you haven't been estrogen deprived or exposed to toxic medicines it's unlikely. Most women lose maximal bone mass within 3 years of after menopause. An xray test can determine risk.

Usually not!: Unless kidney disease was present, the magnesium (300 mg) is less than the daily requirement.  Magnesium has major health benefits! most americans ( 60+ %), do not get enough in their diet!
