i've been having an excess of saliva lately. i feel like i'm always swallowing. is this normal? my wisdom teeth are just coming in, later than normal.

It depends: Excessive saliva is typically a transient problem and rarely a cause for concern.  Most likely either your salivary glands are making more saliva than usual or you are having difficulty swallowing.  Common causes include:  reflux, infection, medications (like klonopin, (clonazepam) clozapine, or sinemet), pregnancy, or inflammation of mucus membranes in your mouth.  Rarer causes include arsenic or bell's palsy.

i know my wisdom teeth are coming in impacted, but right now my mouth is slightly swollen and i can barely open my jaw and i'm in a lot of pain ?

Painful Wisdom: You may have a bad case of pericoronitis. My recommendation would be to get a referral to your local oral surgeon. In the meantime, take a full course of a broad spectrum antibiotic combined with Ibuprofen. You should experience a noticeable reduction in the pain and swelling within 3 days. Be sure to take the full course of antibiotics. But yes, they need to come out.

its been 6 days since i got 3 wisdom teeth removed. one was impacted. they used local anesthetic and my mouth is still numb. is this normal? what should i do?! i miss eating normal food?

Accepted Answer

: With this much surgery you would expect this result. You need to wait for healing and the sutures to be removed. A soft diet is necessary so food doesn't get into the extraction sites and cause problems. The numbness should decrease, if not go back to the dentist, but always follow the post extraction directions.

impacted&rotten wisdom teeth, can it cause sore throat, ear pain, jaw pain?mainly sore throat at back of mouth(annoying). always swallowing thick mucous

Possibly: See your dentist or oral surgeon to perform a thorough evaluation to determine if your "bad" wisdom teeth are the cause of your symptoms and to take these teeth out.

Yes: Swallowing saliva is a normal body function. When people are told not to eat or drink before a procedure - that does not include saliva.

it's now 8 days since i've gotten my wisdom teeth out. i just rinsed my mouth like usual and the saliva was spotted with blood... what does that mean?

Accepted Answer

Not normal: You may notice a pink tinge to your saliva for several days following surgery, but 8 days is not normal. If at any time after the wisdom teeth surgery you experience something you think is not part of a normal post-surgical recovery, or if you have concerns, call your surgeon and he/she will be glad to assist you. Take care.

can i swallow saliva on the night before my wisdom teeth extraction?

: Yes. The caution to go "nothing by mouth" applies to extraneous intake, not swallowing your natural saliva.

i just had my wisdom teeth that were infected removed a week ago and i notice at night i wake up in the night spitting yellow saliva. is this normal or something i should worry about?

: Possible acid reflux, or bacterial infections in throat, tongue, teeth or sinus. Since teeth were infected, area may still have      infected tissue present. Make sure you are still taking your prescribed antibiotics and following post operative instructions. See your surgical doctor for post exam and possible treatment.

it has been about 2 weeks since i had all 4 wisdom teeth remove. i am currently experiencing a foul taste in my mouth accompanied by yellow saliva.

Wisdom teeth healing: After two weeks you should not be having a bad taste and drainage in your mouth.  Call the extracting doctor today about this today. You may have an infection and need treatment.

Infection: It sounds like you have a post-op infection. Go back to the treating dentist and have it evaluated. You may require irrigation to keep the area clean or possibly antibiotics.
