Safety of Zantac (ranitidine): I believe you are taking  forsymptoms arising from acid  in the stomach.  Long term stomach acid suppression is needed to suppress symptoms arising from  it or due to history of stomach ulcers., although more effective medicines  called as proton pump inhibitor  are available even over the counter sold as omeprazole.  Long term effects of acid suppression may include calcium and vit d deficiency.

As needed: I believe zantac or pepcid are better choices to take as needed as they are faster acting than ppi's like rebeprazole  Ppi's are most effective when taken in the morning on an empty stomach before certain stomach cells start to secrete acid.

Reflux: If you're experiencing true acid reflux it's probably more effective to switch to the ppi class of medications like prilosec or nexium (esomeprazole).  Don't forget to avoid alcohol,caffeine,nicotine or highly spicey foods. If symptoms persist, consult a gastroenterologist for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Inner ear: True vertigo is caused by an inner ear problem and usually starts quickly and ends pretty quickly the fact that this lasted several hours is a little bit more concerning and I would see your doctor.I do not think it has anything to do with your reflux

i stopped taking sytron iron about 2 months  ago now cause i had started getting acid reflux, i eventually started zantac after the reflux didnt go the zantac eased it but sometimes still get reflux?

May need another Med: You may need another medication that is stronger. Omeprazole suppresses the stomach and can allow the lining of the stomach to heal.

Not usually: Zantac (ranitidine) does not usually have that side effect, but everyone is different. If you are having less appetite after taking it then I would avoid it and try another medication if you are having heartburn.

No: Zantac (ranitidine) does not cause high ferritin. I assume that your son has been on zantac (ranitidine) for gerd. Gerd does not cause high ferritin either. Ferritin does go up with infections or inflammations. It goes down when they subside. Ask your pediatrician  reasons for testing serum ferritin, because it is not something we do routinely. If it is very abnormal, then you need the doctor anyway..

Potentially: It is an antihistamine and that is a known side effect. Stop taking it and discuss with your doctor.
