hii dr.. 6months pregnant with severe constipation & gastritis. doctor suggested to take lactihep syrup everyday at bed time 45ml. is it fine to take this lactulose syrup daily in pregnancy? will it not harm the baby or causes preterm delivery?

: To reach baby and interfere with pregnancy a drug/agent must enter your blood &amp; travel through the placenta to baby. The agent mentioned is not absorbed into the blood is a significant amount and is considered one of the safest agents for constipation in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Yes: This material remains in the digestive tract and will not enter your blood. Use during pregnancy  is fine.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Any preterm delivery, even a late preterm as you had, is a risk factor for future pregnancies. I would discuss with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist prior to next conception to talk about what should be followed (things like cervical length, etc) to prevent an even earlier preterm birth.

No: Mastocytosis is caused by mutations in the DNA that lead to increased mast cell growth. These mutations occur randomly, not due to pregnancy or labor. Hormonal changes in pregnancy may exacerbate the symptoms of mastocytosis, or can also lead to other problems like hives during or after pregnancy. See an allergist/immunologist or a provider that specializes in mastocytosis for more info.

Yes : The greatest risk factor for preterm labor and preterm delivery is having a history of doing that.  Therefore, your risk for early labor and delivery is elevated.  There is an approved medication (weekly injections from 16 weeks to 6 weeks) to decrease that risk. Talk to your ob/gyn about that when you are pregnant again.

Fish oil: Fish oil can cause thinning of the blood and more bleeding.  I would avoid it after 36 weeks.

i heard that consuming dha supplement after 20 weeks pregnancy can cause excessive bleeding during labor. is it true? when should i stop taking it?

1 per day: There are many DHA supplements in the form of prenatal vitamins which are recommended for pregnant women. When taken at recommended dose the increase risk of bleeding is not generally a concern

im 38.5 weeks high risk pregnancy.....cause i had 2 stillbirths one at 36 weeks and the other at 20 weeks so will i beable to get my labor induce?

IF you were my pt: I would induce u at 39 weeks or earlier , if earlier u must have an amnio but since you are 38.5 i would induce u right at 39 weeks, as the ideal time to deliver is 39-40 weeks and i would be doing nsts and bpps each week until u deliver, indcucion is safe and easy and effective when done properly, almost all of my pts want to be induced, please call your OB to discuss and get it scheduled.

how can bacterial vaginosis causes preterm labor? if once it happened and treated for next pregnancy,what is the chance of repeat preterm labor?

B.V. and early labor: Bacterial vaginitis residing and multiplying in the vagina came cause white blood cell mobilization, irritation to the vagina, and effusion through leaking amniotic membranes into the uterus causing internal infection with resulting premature labor. Once it is treated effectively it is not a problem so have your OB assess the vaginal area regularly during your next pregnancy to eliminate B.V.
