Folic acid: Folic acid is recommended at a minimum to be supplemented. Make sure you establish with a GP and Ob-Gyn doc as soon as possible in order to have your medical needs addressed properly through your pregnancy.

is it ok to give prenatal vitamins to my 94 year old mother?

Other option better: No harm in it, really, but a prenatal vitamin doesn't contain the amount of calcium and vitamin d recommended for a woman this age. A multivitamin specifically formulated for older women would be a better option.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Prenatal vitamins are definitely healthy for women in their adolescence.  Typically most prenatals have extra folic acid, iron and calcium.  I typically recommend cost comparison to my patients because sometimes there is an upcharge on prenatals.  Check the labels, you may find another brand has same ingredients but is cheaper if it doesn't say 'prenatal' on it.  Just an idea. But definitely safe.

can a 17 year old take prenatal vitamins if not pregnant but to help with hair growth?

It is safe: It is safe for a non-pregnant woman of child bearing age to take a pre-natal vitamin. I'm not so sure it is going to help a whole lot with your hair growth. Hair growth depends on many factors, just one of them being adequate vitamin intake. So i wouldn't do this thinking it's the magic bullet to long hair.

Label says prenatal : If you have not conceived in three years you should see a specialist. You need an evaluation. Prenatal vitamins alone will not help.

i started taking vitafusion prenatal vitamins gummies 2 weeks ago & now have a yeast infection . i haven't had one in 10 years. is this the cause?

Coincidence likely: Taking vitamins should not cause you to get a yeast infection. It is probably a timing coincidence. Unless those vitamins have something in them besides vitamins, always check the ingredients! If you're pregnant, yeast infections are common in pregnant women since they become more susceptible to them.

i had iodine constant 6 years ago and it nearly killed me. i want to take prenatal vitamins. am i allergic to fish oil because of the iodine allergy?

Folate: Take folate, iron and calcium separately instead of a prenatal vitamin. Folate is most important since it protects from certain birth defects. in fact some obstetricians recommend folate alone instead of prenatal vitamins if you are healthy and have a good diet.

You : You should be evaluated for this by your doctor.  It is abnormal that you started bleeding, although it can happen, but it is rare with mirena (levonorgestrel).  Have your doctor check to be sure that your Mirena (levonorgestrel) did not come out.  If your bleeding becomes heavy, or if you have any new symptoms such as pain then you should be evaluated immediately.

Maybe: If OB doesn't think you need them (anemia?), they aren't needed to produce good breast milk. Eat a nutritionally complete diet, include extra calcium. Milk production takes calcium from your bones and can lead to thin bones.  A varied diet varies the taste of breast milk and helps these children eat a wider variety of foods.If your diet isn't what it should be, consider a complete multivitamin.

No: Vitamins should not hurt your stomach unless you are taking excessive number of pills.
