No: Concentration often causes suppression of the natural blink reflex resulting in drying of the surface of the eye. This can result in blurring which may be relieved by resting the eyes or using artificial tears to lubricate the ocular surface. In such cases, diffusion of the light coming into the yes can accentuate the appearance of floaters already present.

i have noticed an increase in the amount and intensity of "eye floaters", to the point that it is constantly distracting when outside in daylight or working on a computer screen. could this be an issue?

Yes: See an ophthalmologist to rule out bleeding inside the eye.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

can eye strain from excessive computer time at work prematurely age eyes and cause eye floaters?

No: The clear gel that fills eyeball is normally attached to all parts of the inside of the eye.  As we get older it can become more liquid (watery) and detaches from the back of the retina causing flashes & floaters.  This can indicate a retinal tear. As the retina detaches, change or loss in your side vision is the next symptom.   Computer unrelated. U should see your eye doctor to check the retina.

i frequently have eye floaters. i have been to the eye dr, but did not get my eyes dialated. would they have noticed if there was an issue of concern? i do work on a computer all day, but i typically have blue light glasses on?

: Your retina has to be checked by an ophthalmologist and would in all likelihood require pupillary dilatation.

Update on floaters: Most floaters in the vision as you described are benign &amp; not of concern except as a nuisance. However, if increasing or associated with flashes of light or any dark patches such as a "curtain" then evaluation by your eye MD is needed for risks of retinal damage. If symptoms are worsening, time can be of the essence. Also, dehydration or eye rubbing can contribute to the symptoms so avoid these.

Due to vitreous cell: We can see the cells that are floating in our vitreous, occasionally in a bright day. But if anyone develops vitreous detachment, the floaters are more commonly seen and they are more in number. 
Also people with disease of posterior part of their eyes may have more floaters. Like patients with diabetes, who has had bleeding in their eyes.

Retina needs exam: Floaters are usually a very benign finding and a normal aging change as the vitreous jelly in the eye pulls away from the retina.  Floaters are potentially more worrisome as it often indicates the vitreous jelly is pulling on the retina and may be a sign of a retinal tear or retinal detachment.  You need to schedule an eye exam to include dilation of your pupils to examine the entire retina.
