Family practice: Get it checked out. Have a culture performed. The bacteria may be resistant to the antibiotic that you were put on.

Yes : The antibiotic concentrates in the kidneys quite well. If the bacteria is sensitive to cephalexin,  your symptoms of a UTI should go away within 24 hours. If not,  i'd recommend getting it re- evaluated by your prescriber.

Here are some ...: For most of uncomplicated female UTIs, a 3-5 day course of antibiotics should be more than needed if bug is sensitive to it. So, you may stop it since you got its related diarrhea and see. If not subsiding in 3 days as expected and wished, seek pro-evaluation especially at the time having fever + persistent  worse diarrhea. Best wish ...

Urine Culture: If the antibiotics were prescribed without a culture, then you should have a culture off antibiotics. If you previously had a urine culture, a repeat culture is appropriate at this point. You may just have the symptoms of a UTI without an infection. See a urologist.

i took postinor2 last dose 9 hours ago. if i take cephalexin 500mg for uti is it gonna effect the effectivness of postinor2?

No: keflex goes out entirely by being flushed through the kidneys; it has no effect on other drug metabolism through the liver and no effect on drug absorption.

Different antibiotic: Don’t think ‘better’ with antibiotics. These drugs are quite different in their mechanisms of action and the type of bacteria they control. Bactrim is a good 1st choice for community UTI as it covers most pathogens. I hope your doc got a urine specimen to determine which organism is causing  your problem, cephalexin is a good 2nd choice. Add cranberry or blueberry juice daily to help!

is 250 mg of cephalexin twice a day enough to treat uti in a 60 pound adult woman? its 10 days. i was having trouble with higher dose and with macrobid. thanks?

: Some UTI bacteria are resistant to cephalexin and related drugs. If the cause of your UTI is susceptible to it, this dose is fine for a lower tract UTI, i.e. isolated to the bladder. A higher dose would be required for upper urinary tract infection (pyelonephritis). Discuss with your doctor if any uncertainty remains. (Is "60 pound" a typo? Maybe 160 lb?)

i'm 27 wks pregnant and am taking cephalexin for a uti. in these past couple of days i am so sleepy, is it the uti or the antibiotics making me sleepy?

Most likely UTI: It would be rare for the antibiotic to make you sleepy. The UTI in itself could wear you out and combined with the pregnancy is the most likely cause. Relax, take your medication, drink plenty of fluids and get well. Good luck.

No: That medication has no effect on conception or on a baby if you were pregnant.
