Surgery: While a physician may have a high certainty that the meniscus is torn through physical exam, the only 2 methods to diagnose a meniscus tear are with an MRI or surgery.  Keep in mind, some meniscus tears may also be missed on an mri.

It depends on: the type and severity of the tear, so you need to discuss it with your orthopedic surgeon.  Some types of tears may require surgery, others may not.

Another opinion: This would be extremely rare in terms of an ACL injury. ACL tears rarely "heal" themselves. In the absence of ACL reconstruction or some type of regenerative injection, an ACL tear should still be present on the 2nd MRI. It is possible that a meniscal tear has developed since the 1st MRI, especially if the ACL is not functioning. Obtain another ortho and/or radiologist opinion to get clarification

had mri on knee  showed meniscal tear, tendentis, bursitis, benign lesion on cartilage. what is yr opinion on treatment? .

Accepted Answer

Depends on your main: symptoms. If knee is hurting and "gives way" when you walk, then a Scope surgery to get rid of the Meniscal tear; which also provides an opportunity to look at all other structures. Lesion on Cartilage, might look benign, But a biopsy could be done, to confirms it is Benign,
The bursitis/tendonitis, if still persists can be treated by the NSAIDs and PT/exercises, heat/cold packs etc.

my left knee clicks half the time when i walk, some times i may have pain on the outer side of the knee on walking, mri didn't show meniscal tear.

Keep going: Glad you had an MRI but keep going until you find the reason and treatment for your knee.  A orthopedic doctor would be best.  Peace and good health.

Surgery?: A torn medial meniscus usually does not heal, the ligament sprain will heal on its own.  If you are having pain, locking or instability, then you may need arthroscopic surgery to treat the meniscus tear.

Not necessary.......: It will depend upon your lifestyle and how active are you. If not highly active, try conservative treatment like pain management with medication, steroid injection for inflammation and physical therapy for quadricep strengthening. If conservative treatment fails, then reevaluation is needed.

had a second mri because of a fall in january directly onto my knee cap. ist mri showed fracture to tibia and tibia plateau. 2nd mri now shows internal derangement , tibial plateau fracture and medial free edge meniscal tear. what does this all mean?

MRI ?'s: What is described indicates a failure of tibial fracture treatment, especially with "internal derangement" . The meniscus tear may have occurred secondary to the post injury use of the injured knee joint.  Both may need surgical intervention to correct.

last year after having an mri done i have a small knee joint effusion. there is a minor inferior surfacing vertical tear within the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. no evidence of a lateral meniscal tear. no pain now can i play sports?

You have a tear: Your MRI has confirmed your presumed symptoms of sharp based pain typically medially or posteriorly based made worse with bending twisting or pivoting.  Gonna probably need surgery...
