how can i encourage a 79 yr person bedbound with spine compression cancer for over 3 yrs to drink and eat ?not sick after eating but causing more sleeping and bit of confusion am treating with protein shakes ,helps a bit.all other vitals checked good

Careful: Symptoms are typical for late stages of disease. Such patients are taking in very limited amounts of food for different reasons. Keep offering the food, but do not stress over the quantity ingested. Make sure you have palliative care and/or hospice for better symptom control.

No: CRP is manifestation of an illness, like fever. CRP by itself does not make you sick, it is a marker for inflammation.

Accepted Answer

Cynical view point: Humans need some animal proteins, (note that milk, including mother's milk, is an animal protein) as a source of vitamin B12. If you take supplemental vitamin B12 and vitamin D, you do not need to eat animal proteins. If you believe animal proteins cause cancer, do not eat meat!

can high protein low carb diets have an ill effect on neurofibromatosis ?

Probably okay: I don't know of any contraindications to high protein, low carb diet in nf type 1 or 2. However, still trust the advice of your neurologist, and of course be sure you don't have any other health conditions that could contraindicate this diet (liver disease, e.g.). my father 72 has serum creatinin 2.4 and 3.3 in 2 tests, but no protein in urine, if his kideys are ill why is there no protein in urine? is he ill?

Nephrologist: Your father's kidneys are ill and you should consult a nephrologist to see if further damage can be prevented or delayed.

can too much protein in diet cause weight gain. i eat 1000 cal. diet and i have bee. eating around 70 grams protien. i'm afriad ill gain weight?

No: If you are really eating 1000 calories per day, every day, then you will lose weight, even if the calories are made up entirely of fat.  1000 calories per day is less than a normal human adult needs. Note that I am not suggesting that you eat a diet of 1000 calories per day of fat.

i have protein in my urine and i have been feeling extremely nauseous and tired what should i do? i have a doctor's appointment for nephrology but it's 2 months away and i'm feeling sick everyday?

: You should see your family doc to see what is the cause  of nausea and tiredness for it may or may not be related to proteins in urine. Also have something prescribed for nausea Hope you feel better

Monoclonal not signi: You have an extra immunoglobulin band which is ofter referred to as a mgus - monoclonal protein of unknown significance. There is a similar protein elevation with multiple myeloma whihc is a tumor but i suspect your mugus is related to you itp. Your physician should be able to clarify this for you. Keep running this is not a reason to stop.
