PEG tube handling: Everyone's different, based on reasons the peg tube was placed, duration of anticipated use, calorie requirements of the patient, patency of stomach outlet & the rate of GI functioning/motility, patient's tolerance to commercial feedings; feeding schedule (continuous versus bolus feeds), device used (button, traditional, etc.); & ? Oral supplements permitted. Best to speak with your husband's doc.

my client has a mickey button and when we remove the feeding tube stomach contance comes out is the balloon not got enough water or air in it or what?

Confusing post: A Mickey button is placed through a hole in the abdominal wall directly into the stomach. The hole is a direct tunnel to the stomach and any time the device is removed the stomach contents can leak trough the hole. If the stomach contents leak while the Mickey button is in place, the retention balloon is not properly inflated.

can a stomach feeding tube cause a partial obstruction that a colonoscopy can detect?

: No, a gastric feeding tube goes into the stomach, and the colonoscopy only goes into the colon. The colonoscope would not be able to see inside the stomach itself. There are other tests which could be useful if there was any concern about the feeding tube. Contact your doctor if you are concerned. Good luck.

Safer than starving: Within reason, people with COPD who weigh more live longer. No procedure or treatment is completely risk free but in many cases the risk of the procedure is less than the risk of not having the procedure. This should be discussed with the doctor recommending and/or performing the procedure.

hi, i had recently had a peg tube feeding tube removed from my stomach, on march 11th this year, i'm not sure if they properly removed i'm still having a lot of leaking  and drainage coming from the wound, they said it would take 3 days to close,?

Should : Have closed by now. Have a follow up with your doc, sometimes infections are the culprit for non closure. Cultures may be needed from the drainage.

Gastro: you should follow up with your gastroenterologist. You may need speech therapy in order to re-train your swallowing muscles. Depending on your underlying problem you may also need a neurologist

Surgery location: Short answer from a non-surgeon.
The percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (peg) feeding tube may interfere with a potential esophageal surgery more than a percutaneous endoscopic jejunum (or duodenum) (pej) tube in the small bowel (after the stomach). This isn't always the case, but one reason.

Better tolerated: Two major reasons. First, the stomach is the preferred organ substitute for esophageal cancer surgery, and second, duodenal feedings are generally better tolerated, and are associated with less reflux.

Depends.: Feeding tubes are either placed in a percutaneous fashion or an open fashion, depending on multiple factors with the patient. The percutaneous entry route is done without surgery, the open route is a surgical procedure. Either way, most tubes can usually be removed by a hard pull on the tube. It comes out of the skin incision and the tract usually closes up on it's own.

do all parkinson's patients deteriorate and eventually need a feeding tube?

Parkinson's: In general, parkinson's-afflicted people tend to deteriorate over time.  This mainly is a neurological disease, and dementia, as well as deterioration of motor function can become compromised.  That being said, i treat a lot of patients with Parkinson's disease, and most of them do not need, or have needed feeding tubes.
