The ACL then has to heal in this position in order to withstand repetitive stresses associated with sports activities. The problem with any type of ACL graft fixation method is that, if repeatedly stressed before the graft has healed in position, the fixation will fail.

If you are highly active, usually you should have reconstructive surgery then phyiscal therapy, which progresses to exercises that develop neuromuscular coordination, proper jump landing, core strength, proprioception (limb/body position sense). Check out sportsmetrics (tm), fifa 11+ soccer exercise program, smsmf pep program, for examples.

Neuromuscular : Neuromuscular training is recommended for acl prevention. Obviously, it depends on the severity of the injury and whether or not your physician has cleared you to begin return to sport training.

Its not too late.: Its not too late to have it repaired. Studies have shown that those who have surgery right away are more prone to problems with stiffness and scar formation, so most surgeons like to wait until the swelling and inflammation that occurs right after the injury is gone. Over years the other stabilizers of the knee, like the capsule and other ligaments, stretch out, but at 10 weeks you should be okay.
