Depends: Hi. There's no absolute right level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-D) in the blood. My personal goal for patients is to be at or above the mid-30's. It's estimated that you raise 25-D by about 6 for every 1,000 units of oral vitamin D you take. Therefore, based on how low you are, that helps you estimate a reasonable amount to take. Good luck!

Please do what your doctor says but the experts on vitamin D research suggest between 50 and 80 for a lab reading.  Some docs are not familiar w/that and when they see it 30 and above say it is ok.
