Neither: Swelling of your feet is not normal & is probably not due to your shoes.  If it persisists you should have it checked by a doctor.

There are two issues: Here. Having high blood pressure and not taking meds is a serious recipe for disaster. I would encourage you to take your meds as prescribed. For your unilateral foot swelling there are many possible causes including  venous insufficiency, gout, infection, s/p injury, DVT and feel this should be examined by a medical doctor or podiatrist as well.

Vein problems: you are having vein problems beside your varicoses vein,your deep vein system is not working as good as it supposed to be,that why you are having the swelling and the discoloration.
you need to wear knee high pressure stocking all the time,you can takes them off while you are in bed and while you are keeping your legs elevated.
avoid long standing,and sitting,walk frequently.and keep your legs up.

Unilateral foot : Swelling?  I assume it is not painful.  It could be lymphedema, caused by anything that interrupts lymph drainage from the foot.  If you are diabetic, you could have decreased sensation in the foot and traumatize it repeatedly without knowing, condition called charcot's foot.  But not likely with normal mri, which is a very accurate imaging test.  I am stumped, sorry.

See physician: Your description sounds like a fungus infection of the skin of that foot.  See your physician, who can confirm if this is the correct diagnosis and recommend therapy.

Left foot swollen: Go to ER. need to check pulses ,vascular supply, check for autoimmune disease, clots( d-dimer), . It appears serious . Go to ER now
