Numbness: Numbness in the hip area can be from a peripheral cause (meralgia paresthetica -- irritation of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve) or central -- disc irritation of a nerve at the spinal cord level -- best to see your doctor to help sort this out and to discuss treatment options.

: It's interesting that the numbness occurs in both hips. Prolonged standing apparently compresses sensory nerves in your hip areas. If this is the only occasion where this numbness occurs &amp; it's purely positional, it may not require investigation or treatment, but weakness of muscles would &amp; such damage is to be avoided. An orthopedic specialist or a neurologist should be consulted as needed,though

Neurologist: Numbness is a feeling when nerves are involved.  The specialists in this area of medicine are neurologists.
When the problem is annoying enough to you make an appointment with one and let them help you.

Sciatica: Somethimes a pinched nerve or sciatca can cause pain or numbness on the left hip, back, leg area. I would see a doctor as soon as possible for an exam. Good luck

Depends: on if your father has underlying illness. Considerations will arthritis of the hip, avascular necrosis and fracture of the hip. Further evaluation is needed

Possibly sciatica: It could be related to the sciatic but specific distribution of the numbness would be important and if it is really the entire leg you should likely get imaging of your lumbar spine. Please see your provider for history and physical examination.

Transient nerve: compression. Everybody's anatomy is slightly different and your nerves supplying the skin around your hip may run closer to the surface; also more likely compression if you are slender with little subcutaneous fat for cushion. Likely the nerves are compressed, recover, but too soon recompressed accounting for increased frequency.Avoid lying on that side; put pillow behind to keep from rolling over
