May be serious: You should go to the emergency department. This could be serious - a ruptured appendix would be the worst scenario. Less serious but concerning could be a gall bladder attack, pleurisy, or pneumonia.  If you have fever, it's urgent. Good luck.

Constipation: It is not normal for people not to have a bowel movement for three days the stool hard and create a pressure similar to obstruction  and when you try to push it hurts hydrate well eat more fibers and fruits and take stool softener and regulate your nowel too be every day beer coffee and sodas are not fluids they are sponges that will make you more dehydrated  exercise by some walking good luck

See your GI MD: The feeling of the need to defecate without actually being able to, may be a manifestation of active colitis.  You should call your GI specialist to be seen.  If colonoscopy reveals active colitis, you will likely need treatment.  Meanwhile make sure you are well hydrated - drink whatever you can until seen my your md.

Constipation ?: Crippling pain while defecating is not normal. No need to suffer. Go to your Doctor for a workup. Have you had a colonoscopy yet? Recommended at age 50! The solution to this medical problem may be simple or complex. Are you eating 30 grams of fiber a day? Drinking enough water. Exercising? Following the call of nature?(When the urge starts,  go to the bathroom and have complete evacuation) There are multiple remedies depending on cause.
