This excretion process requires glucuronide conjugation of bilirubin whose maturation is delayed in infants with hypothyroidism.  Typically, affected infants experience prolonged physiologic jaundice.

Maternal-fetal blood group issues, maternal diabetes, dehydration, breast feeding etc are all more common issues. The issues of hypothyroidism to a degree it would cause jaundice would likely show physical features of a newborn with hypothyroidism.All of these questions can be sorted out with testing.
