Go see PCP: Your symptoms of pain, swelling, tenderness, and decreased range of motion are suggestive of inflammation. It can be as benign as a tendinitis if you recently did some strenuous exercising, or more serious if you are having fevers (it can be sign of infection or gout).

Patella: Was there trauma? If not, could be from mild arthritis behind your knee cap; also could be from tight muscles, around knee (ie quadriceps, hip flexors, hamstrings) if it persists i would get evaluated by an orthopedist.

, diagnosis and treatment. There are many possible causes and thus impossible from information provided.

Possibly: Torn meniscus, arthritis, bursitis etc.
Follow up with your orthopedic specialist for an accurate assessment. Xray and/or MRI of the knee would confirm the dx.
You may take nsaids and heat application would work for now.
Avoid strenuous exercise esp strenuous exercise, jumping or running etc

Probably overuse: Since this involves both knees, it is probably from overuse, especially since only the back of the knee.  Take more frequent breaks to get up and walk around.  Perform simple range of motion activities by moving the knee through full range of motion and stretch at the limits of motion when fully straight and fully bent.  Ice may help if pain persists.  Apply ice to painful area 15-20 min/hour.

It depends: Knee pain can be caused by patella chondromalacia or internal derangement. It can also be referred from an occult hip or lumbar spine problem.  Try vmo exercises & nsaids. Persistent pain calls for an x-ray and evaluation by a healthcare professional.

Patella pain: Typically pain in that region originates from poor function of the kneecaps. If this in fact is true, a series of treatments may be helpful to eliminating the symptoms... injections, therapy, braces and even surgery can play a role in treatment of this condition

Baker’s cyst : Check to see if there is a bump as well. A common problem known as a baker’s cyst, can occur here and may be painful. Try rubbing some Voltaren gel (OTC) in and around the area a few times daily. Even if the cyst is not present, the anti inflammatory effect should be beneficial for you.  Ultimately, steroid injection could be helpful,if it doesn’t resolve Or remains painful.  Good luck
