Chest pain: You may be having some esophageal or gastric irritation issues caused by the alcohol, some folks get rhythm disturbances from alcohol.

Typical side-effect: Alcohol is well known for increasing the risk of heart arrhythmia (when the heart beats irregularly).  If you are getting heart arrhythmia (such as a faster heart beat) after each alcohol consumption, you should probably either cut down or just stop drinking.  The exact mechanism of why alcohol affects the heart is not fully understood but it may be both neural or dehydration induced.

Enzyme deficiency: You may be genetically deficient in an enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde, a metabolic product of alcohol. Abstain from alcohol.

You should check: Check with your primary doctor or cardiologist.  While it is true that it may be a common enough, not so dangerous  matter ("Holiday Heart"), we can't know this without checking.

Probably yes: Depends upon why you had the ablation and what your specific problem was but probably yes - in moderation. Conditions where i would try to limit alcohol as much as possible would include af ablation or VT ablation.

Alcohol Allergy: You sound like you gave an intolerance or allergy to alcohol and should provably not drink.

No: Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol will not damage the heart in any way.  Excessive alcohol intake over a long period of time can cause damage to the heart. There is no reason that you can't responsible consume alcohol after heart surgery.

Yes, usually: Unless the underlying reason for the cardiac condition is not alcohol related or exacerbated, social consumption of alcohol should not be a problem. Best to discuss with one's own physician.

Once a day: One drink a day.  Aha recommend, that if you drink do it in moderation. Avoid excess that may increase your risk for another heart attack. If you do not drink, do not start. One drink for females and two for men. One drink mean: one 12oz beer, 4oz wine, 1.5oz of 80-proof spirit, 1.0oz of 100-proof spirit.

i'm a healthy 33 yr old male and have irregular/rapid heart beats a few times a week--more if i have a drink (alcohol). is having a drink dangerous?

Heart Palpitations: This is a common question. And given your age the perfect time to begin to address your concern.

Rapid heart beats or irregular heart beats can be a warning sign of other dangers. I would want to know your history, your family history, and a myriad of other issues such as other habits, your history of diagnoses and what your blood pressure and blood sugars were.
