what would cause my face to suddenly get hot and red?  redness lasts about 30 minutes body temp stays normal. alergic reaction? this also happens sometime when i am in a stressful situation but most of the time i have no idea why

This : This may be nothing more than a dilation of blood vessels, flushing, in response to some environment or emotional event.  An allergic reaction typically will last longer and have other symptoms, such as itching or pain.With out an exam it is difficult to assess and provide an accurate answer. Red face: Your face has many blood vessels -- and many are close to the surface of your skin.  This can increase as you age.  They are very responsive to emotion like embarrassment, anger, etc. Because of your mind-body connection.  Also some people have a condition called rosacea -- you get red face w/spicy foods, heat, alcohol, etc.

Rosacea: Rosacea often flares when something causes the blood vessels in the face to expand, which causes redness. Things that cause a flare-up are called triggers. Common triggers are exercise, sun and wind exposure, hot weather, stress, spicy foods, alcohol, and hot baths. Swings in temperature from hot to cold or cold to hot can also cause a flare-up of rosacea.

Hot face: There are many causes of flushing.  These include certain medications, hormonal fluctuations and even certain tumors that produce substances that can cause flushing.  If it persists you need to be worked up for these various entities.

Probably normal: The body responds to heat by dilating it's blood vessels in order to dissipate heat. This can cause beet red coloration in some people who don't perspire as much as others whose skin doesn't redden as much.

Not uncommon: Alcohol has a vasodilatory effect. It is possible you are allergic to the sulfites as well.
