Possible TMJ: It could be an issue with your joint, it could be as simple as the eustachian tube  relieving the pressure difference or could indicate either a tooth or ear infection. If you have  constant pain see your dentist ASAP If it is just occasional, mention it to your dentist the next visit or make an appointment to discuss it. If is only rare or not persistent it is probably nothing to worry with.

Possibly tooth?: I am not aware of a connection between drinking soda and ear pain.  Sometimes tooth pain can "refer" (go to) the ear and be perceived as ear pain.  A doctor can check your ear for any problems and if nothing is found you may want to have the teeth in that area examined.

Pressure and volume: The ear pieces that hold the earbuds in your ears are gently pressing on the sensitive ear canal tissue while you listen to music. this pressure can cause pain when the earbuds are used for long periods of time- try swapping out the harder plastic section for padded or foam inserts. Also, avoid listening to music at a loud volume, as this can cause ringing in your ear and a different kind of pain.

Basics: One of the primary causes of ear pain is stretch on the ear drum. When/if the air usually in the middle ear leaves for a variety of issues it creates a vacuum that stretches the drum. If your Eustachian tube (from ear to throat) is open yawning or chewing can let air back in. If it is closed from a cold or allergies it may not let air in/the vacuum remains. An exam may/not see this.

Throat problem: You  might be having referred pain from your throat.  Your throat may be the source of your ear discomfort.  This can range from a pharyngitis to reflux to another form of inflammation.  It is best for your doc to take a look at you if this continues to bother  you.

Cross innervation: This could be due to an anatomical quirk. Nerves that supply the jaw and eardrum are linked. Occasionally ear pain is felt in the teeth/jaw &amp; vice versa. Simple anti inflammatory meds like ibuprofen may help some as would finding a way to stop the grinding.
