Unable to do job: Viral gastroenteritis is the most common cause of self limited diarrhea.   Gastritis or inflamation of stomach can also be caused by virus preventing the stomach and intestinal tract from doing its job effectively leading to diarrhea.  Another possibility is autoimmune gastritis that can cause diarrhea but more chronic.  Other causes of gastritis usually do not cause self limiting diarrhea.

However there may be an associated irritability of the intestinal tract or coexistent     irritable bowel syndrome leading to diarrhea. : "itis" is a simple add on label that indicates what part of the body is inflamed. The same germ that can trigger gastritis can also cause diarrheal illness, these are often viruses. However, gastritis can be a stand alone process that only involves the stomach (gastro) and that process can be caused by  triggers that would not result in diarrhea.

Gastritis: Gastritis could very well be what is going on. Still other possibilities especially with the diarrhea. If you have any additional systemic symptoms (fever, etc) I would see a doc/urgent care.

Nexium can't: cause gastritis; however, diarrhea has been reported. Additionally, gastritis, does not necessarily cause constipation. It is time to consult your prescribing physician and, if you are self medicating: STOP!

can sulcrafare (carafate) cause green stool? i was prescribed this medication for gastritis, and my stool color has been green. no diarrhea as the stool is hard but it is dark green. i have not been eating things like vegetables to make it such color?

Uncertain: Green stool often occurs when there is rapid transit of feces through the intenstines - however, in that situation the feces is usually softer.  You described hard stool. I looked on line and saw a few individuals reporting dark green stool with carafate - however, I didn't see it mentioned elsewhere.

what can cause atrophic gastritis in the stomach and bleeding of the duodenum bulb and chronic diarrhea? c-diff was negative.

H pylori: Consider asking your primary care physician about testing you for h pylori and checking your stool for fecal leukocytes, and ova and parasites.

i had the basic symptoms of gastritis (but could have been caused by pepto bismol, & the next day, i think i had black stools- not sure. the next day stools mainly brown w' bits of black & then diarrhea. now, diarrhea & blood on tp.what should i do?

: Peptobismol is good for treating gastritis caused by H.Pylori but itself causes black stools. You have to differentiate this from the black loose stools "tarry stools" which are caused by gastric bleeding. If you have visible blood in the stool, most likely this is lower GI bleeding, coming from the colorectum or anus. Persistent symptoms warrant endoscopy/colonscopy.
