burping for the last two days constantly.  not drinking soda,  no change in diet.  there is no feeling of need to vomit. any idea what causes this?

Excessive burping: This needs detailed evaluation to make sure there is no lesion in your intestines causing a partial blockage in  your intestines or stomach. Normal burping mostly results from the air we swallow during talking or eating however it is constant, worrisome reasons need to be ruled out. Please see your doctor sooner. If you have pain or fever also then go to ER.

Water=best drink: Without water, we cannot exist....Nearly 3/4 of your body is water-weighted. With that said, it does not mean you have to drink "clear-water" to live. Juice, milk, sodas/coffee/tea etc..Are actually mostly water..So you can live on these..But not recommended because of the junks in them--sugar/fructose, preservatives/colorings etc..Are the bad parts, not the water part..
Water=best drink on earth.

Diabetes: Pop/ soda containing drinks such as coke, pepsi etc have fructose syrup, which acts like sugar in the body. Too much of it is obviously not good.

Psychological depend: Dependency on any food,smoking and drugs causes anxiety and stress when the objects are not available. It could also be possible that you develop hypoglycemia due to hyperinsulinemia from insulin resistance which could cause the symptoms when you do not drink soda

Find alternatives : Soda is terrible for health, with many problems beyond weight gain; diet sodas may be even more dangerous!
Drink other things instead such as green tea, sparkling spring water and some juice or kombucha which is fizzy and a bit sweet with much less sugar. Try stress reduction techniques like exercise and meditation.

Soda: Soda thatcis not diet soda is a simple, fast absorbed carb.  It will not "cause" diabetes but could unmask an undiscovered insulin resistance or insulin deficiency. And yes, weght gain and adipose gain from excess soda can indeed lead to an insulin resistant state, which is type 2 diabetes if severe enough.

OK: If you want to eat some sweets in moderation it is ok to do so.  If you are a diabetic then follow your medical doctors guidelines.  Just make sure to brush and floss everyday.

Diet soda is "ok": Diet soda is not "bad", but water is purer and better. Diet soda has artificial sweeteners, which some people worry are bad for the body, while other people feel they are not harmful. Diet soda tastes sweet to our tongues, and perhaps to our stomachs, if there are sweetness sensors down there. So, one maintains a "sweet tooth" and still crave sweets, which can lead to weight gain from snacks.

SODA AND GAS: YES DEFINITELY. IT PRODUCES CARBON DIOXIDE AND THIS IS A GAS THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BLOATED. EVEN A GOOD BURPH DOES NOT TAKE THIS SENSATION AWAY.

Not sure. : Word of advice. Soda is a potential carcinogen. Best if you cut back. I'm assuming you had an EUS due to abdominal pain....if this is true it could be the soda. Try flavored sparkling waters. I too used to be a daily soda drinker till I developed bad acid reflux. Drinking sparkling water has helped and still satisfies, takes a little to get used to but it's much healthier. Invest in your health.
