It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

Nail base injury: This is an injury of the base of your nail also thought to be the root of your nail. There is an increase in brown pigment of melanin because of the injury. As the nail grows out the streak appears. It is not a dangerous problem.

Possibility: I wonder if it's something called costochondritis, which is inflammation of the cartilage in between your ribs which can feel an awful lot like bruising. The other anatomy around there would not make sense bilaterally to both be feeling the same way. Have you tried any OTC meds? I might try 500mg naproxen twice daily and heat to the area. See your doc if no better after a couple of days.

: The color of a bruise is driven by the red cells leaking into the tissue. It does not matter what caused the bleeding into the tissue. Regular bruising is usually due to trauma, bruising in leukemia and other blood disorders can occur without any trauma.

Hard to know: Can you provide any information about the onset or any potential exacerbating factors.  Was there injury to make you suspect it is broken? If there was, trauma to the cartilaginous structure can occur without bruising. Without injury, one might suspect congestion (infection? allergy?), but this feels like a stretch
