Leg edema: Anyone who treats lymphedema and most who treat varicose veins and venous insufficiency will know how to wrap properly.  It is important to remember that the most effective wrapping is not done with ace bandages.  They are too stretchy.  Wraps should not have much elastic in them at all.  There are also non-elastic compression devices, like circaid and others, that are also very effectively.

Potassium: potassium supplementation is typically given in conjunction with a diuretic for patients with volume issues therefore in and of itself it will not reduce swelling but may be necessary in patients using diuretics to reduce swelling

Elevation: Keeping your legs elevated generally reduces swelling; diuretics can be used also but something that should be prescribed after a full evaluation.

LE edema, CKD: if you have edema you may be fluid overloaded.Usually an increase in BUN( urea) which occurs in CKD causes itching but your burning may be a variation. Uric acid(not the same as urea) of 7 is upper limits , the edema is the real issue   Call your renal doctor today or go to ER as you may need a water pill / IV to get the fluid off . Check CMP, and U/A as you may be spilling protein due to CKD .

The : The swelling may be due to the wrap preventing appropriate circulation and fluid return in the lower leg. We call this edema. I would recommend that you see your primary care doctor for evaluation of your knee injury to rule out a sprain or tear in the supporting structures.
It is unlikley that you have a clot in your leg but this can also be assessed.

calf pain for a year. mris:mild feathery edema within several muscles. recently i tried kt tape and surprisingly it really reduced the pain but as soon as i remove it, the pain comes back. why is that? does it speed up the healing? or is it temporary?

Accepted Answer

: Unfortunately, KT tape only has an effect while it is on, after it is applied correctly. It does not facilitate healing but it does result in pain relief while it is in place. You need to take it off and allow your skin to be open to air periodically. You can typically leave the tape on until it begins peeling off. Then, remove it and leave the skin open to air for at least a few hours. Good luck!

i fell and hurt my knee. it was swelling and it hurt so i put it up, wrapped it in a tensor bandage and iced it. should i wear the tensor to bed?

Knee pain: No i would not recommend wearing it to bed. Hey constrictive wrap around the leg while in mobile such as during sleep could promote blood clots. Keep the leg elevated while laying down should minimize the swelling. If your symptoms do not improve after 3 to 4 days then you should have your knee examined by a physician.

You : You may have torn a ligament.  Ligaments don't show up on routine x-rays, so the only way to "see" them is by having an MRI of your ankle.

Unlike bone, ligaments receive a poor blood supply, so they take a long time to heal.  If you have a little tear and have been walking around all this time on it, that could explain why you're still having a problem.  I would encourage you to get an MRI and see what's going on with your ligaments.

hope you can help i am having excruciating left knee pain and currently have extreme swelling so i have been ace wrapping the knee but having a very hard time straightening the knee when the ace wrap comes off.  can the tibia joint shift out of place?

: It is more likely to be a meniscus problem or another knee injury. see your doctor to have an exam and differential diagnosis and treatment. Good Luck
