Abnormal MRI: You do not provide with any clinical information. therefore I would like to know why you had the MRI, obviously you have symptoms.
White spots, are dense, calcium filled nodules as seen in osteoarthritis, degenerative disk disorders,  which may impinge on the thecal sac and or the spine.
You should continue working with your Dr. who ordered the MRI.

Unable to answer: T1 images will show water, air, and cortical bone as dark. T2 images will show air, cortical bone, and other hydrophobic substances as dark. So depends on image acquisition and anatomy.

It can be: It is difficult to answer this without seeing the MRI or at least knowing more about the MRI.  There are two main types of pictures taken in an MRI, they are labelled as "T1" and "T2" images.  Also, sometimes contrast (a compound injected intravenously for the MRI) is given.  A white area in the center of the discs on a T2 image is normally suggestive of healthy (well hydrated) discs and is normal

Nonspecific: White matter lesions could be nonspecific and can be associated with prior head injury, migraine, atherosclerosis, aging, and multiple sclerosis.  Mostly, there is need for clinical correlation.  If ms suspicion, spinal fluid could be tested, if question of arteritis or vasculitis, some blood tests might help.  (on occasion, radiologically isolated syndrome is used to classify a non-clinical ms).

So are age spots. Indeed, age spots are very highly associated with diseases of aging like cerebrovascular disease..because they aren't in young people.

Mri white matter chs: White matter changes on MRI are common due to sensitivity of MRI. Difficult to say whether findings are clinically significant or not. MRI is a tremendous resource for doctors and patients but requires a clinical correlation and cannot be interpreted on its own.

Motion artifact ?: Any imaging test, especially an MRI, can have spots in them that are not a real abnormality, called motion artifact. Your radiologist should be able to tell if the spots are something real or not, because the dots can represent fluid collections as well. If some question exists about whether this is a real finding, you will need to repeat the study, sorry. Trauma can cause fluid collections...

had mri (some numbness coming and going). i looked at mri and saw white spots on t2 scan. radiology report doesn't mention them. did they miss them?

Review the scan: Please have the scan reviewed by a competent radiologist. White spots on T2 Rae very common and many times don't mean anything. That said, a miss is also possible (but less likely imo).
