Cleansers/creams: There are multiple cleansers/exfoliators/and creams that can help decrease the sebum in your pores and smooth your skin such as:  benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, topical antibiotics, and tretinoin.  I suggest cleansing with a hypoallergenic facial cleanser 2 times daily, then applying a combination of these creams.  See your doctor for prescriptions if necessary.  And no squeezing!

Unlikely related: There should be no residual infection after 3 months; sounds like the infection is from the remaining tooth and not the extracted tooth.
  Infection is either a gum or tooth abscess.  Why was the previous tooth extracted - if for a periodontal (gum) infection then that is probably what is happening here and you need to be treated by a periodontist to get rid of the infection and save your teeth.

Pharmacologic treatments include ssri meds, these treat anxiety and reduce picking, n--acetyl cysteine, topiramate, Clonidine all have been used as well. Talk to your drs about the risk , benefits and altrenatives.

Different courses: If your gums are very pale you could be anemic. If you have a feeling in your tooth sometimes that can leak into your gum and cause a discoloration that is known as amalgam tattoo.
