White eyelashes: Known as vitiligo or poliosis, eyelash depigmentation (whitening) can be a result of some hereditary condition. My suggestion: see an ophthalmologist (not an optometrist or optician!). I do not think it's serious, but the eye doctor might be able to determine why and, perhaps, offer a way to reverse it back to normal.

my 14 year old has  one white eyelash and 1 white eyebrow hair - same eye.  both grow longer than the normal hairs. should we be concerned?

Usually OK: An occasional grey or white hair in a young person is usually not a problem. Conditions that can lead to premature gray/white hairs include genetic disposition,  vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid problems, and other rare disorders that usually have other symptoms (vitiligo, neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis, Waardenburg syndrome,...). Your doctor may want to screen for B12 &amp; thyroid levels, CBC.

i'm only 27 and i just discovered 3 white/grey eyelashes. what could be the cause? and can i prevent getting more? (my vitamin d is 25 ng/ml.)

Hair color: Some folks simply grey earlier than others and I know of nothing that can be done about it.  Stay neat and clean and treat others the way you would like to be treated.  That&#x27;s much more attractive than eyelashes.  A dermatologist may be able to tell you more.

Blepharitis: Is a possibility. Clean area with warm washcloth to clean oil ducts. Repeat as needed. See a doctor if it worsens.

pink eye? eye redness, white discharge, feels like eyelash stuck, tender/swelling around, have strep throat. do i need to see a dr? anything i can do?

Probably at home: Most pink eye is due to a virus and sometimes the same virus infects the nose and throat.  Antibiotics are not helpful for virus infections.  If the vision remains good and the pain is just discomfort but not severe you can wait a week for this to get better by itself with the help of your immune system.  Keep it clean and treat your strep throat if that was diagnosed by a doctor.

eyelashes don't feel sensitive, why is that?

Interesting question: This is a very rare symptom. The eyelashes are normally very sensitive to the lightest touch, but this a function of the sensitivity of the skin at the follicle.  Anything causing reduced sensation of the eyelid skin could cause this. This can be from a dysfunction of the trigeminal nerve that supplies sensation to the face, a prior viral infection (herpes, shingles), or a neurological problem.

is there a way to permanently remove your eyelashes?

Yes: Electrolysis or to get rid a a large area, cryotherapy(freezing) is a less controlled way to get rod of eyelashes.

Accepted Answer

Lots of causes: Eyelashes fall out as we age, but can also happen with allergies, eyelid inflammation, infection, low thyroid hormone, poor diet and trauma.  See an ophthalmologist to help in diagnosis.
