Digestion: Many vegetables are partly indigestible and pass thru the digestive tract in whole or in part. Dietary fiber consists of non-starch polysaccharides such as arabinoxylans, cellulose, and many other plant components you can't digest and pass thru you.

my 3 month old sons poop has turned dark brown with white chunks in it. he is formula fed enfamil with baby oatmeal in it. his stools have increased?

Brown is OK!: Baby poop is lots of different colors and can change from day to day for any baby.  One day brown, one day yellow, one green.  The worrisome colors are dark black after the first few days of life (cuz your first poop is blackish meconium), red poop or pure white poop. I suppose purple would be weird too! as his digestive tract matures, consistency will also vary.  And yes, baby poop stinks!

White spots: White spots in baby's stool may be due to medication, curdled milk or possibly lack of bile as long as your baby is feeding well and gaining weight i would not be concerned.

There are 2 types of solutions: acid (pH &lt; 7) &amp; alkaline (pH&gt;7). Normally, the glands in the intestines release mucus &amp; bicarbonate (NaHCO3) to neutralize stomach acid &amp; the lubricate the colon, which makes the stool alkaline. If your baby has colitis (infection), stool would be prolific acidic

Suggests infection: Fecal leukocytes are not normally present in stool in healthy individuals, and if 6-10 is considered moderately elevated and suggest inflammation from infection, usually a bacterial infection such as Salmonella or Shigella or potentially Ameba.   Viruses or allergy cause less reaction.  Leukocytes in stool can also be associated with inflammatory bowel disease, but this is unlikely in an infant.

Assess symptoms: I would suggest continuing to nurse, and if your baby is having a fever, not feeding well, or continues to have diarrhea, please see your PCP. The white cells seen microscopically may have been termed pus.

Not sure : Babies with hirschsprung's disease may not be able to have a bowel movement at all.  Some may just be constipated or only stool with stimulation of the rectum and anus.  There is no fixed frequency of bowel movement.

See answer: Good protective creams contain petrolatum, zinc oxide, or both (examples include Vaseline [white petrolatum], Desitin, (zinc oxide diaper cream) Triple Paste, A&amp;D Ointment, and Balmex)

See your Dr.,,: You need to see your doctor for your baby's treatment.  You may need treatment also as this is in water and soil, as well as food.  The treatment is Metronidazole or nitroimidazole for simple intestinal infection.  It's very important to get treated soon to avoid possible serious complications.  Good luck.

?normal: This could be normal. White stools could signify liver disease. I would observe for a few days. Check with your dr. If persists.
