can lymph nodes remain permanently enlarged after a bad cold or infection? 5 years ago i have a very bad chest cold and several nodes swelled, the largest to 3.5cm long. they are still that size today, fna was clear?

Accepted Answer

: Some lymph nodes stay large for a very long time. That does not make them a sign of cancer. Some lymph nodes at the base of the neck near the collar bone however can signal cancer of internal organs.

: If the architecture of the lymphnode was changed with fibrosis that may happen also it is possible that recurrent low grade infection or inflammation keeps the lymph node active. However FNA is not 100% the fact that it has not increase and more lymph node formation is reassuring, though there is possibility of mycobacterial infection that may not have been picked up.

can pid cause axillary lymph nodes and nipple discharge?

Not usually: Usually pid would cause groin lymph nodes to enlarge not axillary nodes. Both issues need further evaluation.

i have pain  off and on (little/no swelling) in my left arm pit lymph nodes and extending 4" out toward my nipple.  however, i am a 53 yr old male???

Evaluation: Please get seen by a physician as soon as possible .Lymph nodes are specialized structures in the body that filter lymph fluid of harmful pathogens, cancer cells, and cellular waste. Good luck

The lymph node isn't: -a Sentinel not for breast cancer axillary nodes R. As long as your breast xam is normal, the pain can B from underlying costochondral junction pain. This would B sore 2 deep palpation on the bone as U describe. Can B from unrealized trauma which can B mild. NSAIDS if you can take them. Also not many males have Md breast xams so go 2 a surgeon for evaluation for peace of mind.

hi my cat scratched my  left nipple a couple weeks ago and lymph nodes underarm left hurt.  nipple has small brown scab. should i get antibotic?

Cat scratch: Yes you should be seen by your physician for an evaluation - cat's do carry certain infections that can cause the lymph nodes to swell.

Lymph nodes: If you are able to feel a new lymph node that you had not felt before then this needs to be evaluated by your primary care doctor. Most are normal but new ones can indicate a problem. Schedule a visit for an examination and assessment.

my eczema has worsened & spread to my hands, arms, nipples, and legs. oozes clear fluid. i have swollen lymph nodes & weeping eyes. what do you rec?

Time to see your Doc: If this is "just" your eczema, it sounds like it is not responding to current Rx, and you may require more intensive Rx (such as systemic (oral or injected) steroids, if you are already maxing out on topical steroids). However, I fear this may be more than just the eczema, such as a secondary infection, requiring additional therapy. In either case, you should see your primary or skin doctor.

Unlikley: A localized physical exam would be necessary to venture an opinion, but subcutaneous lymph nodes are not generally seen in the areas you describe. If you are overweight that could be subcutaneous fat. Regardless, muscle soreness should be separately evaluated. Are you weight lifting?

It depends on size: Unless these nodes are large(more than 2cm) you do not need to worry. But many diseases affect lymph nodes. Some of the considerations include infections(tb, sarcoid, fungal infections), lymph gland cancers like lymphomas or cancer spread from the lungs or elsewhere in the body. But i would not worry unless they are large enough as the radiologists often over read them anytime they are &gt;0.5cm.
