Accepted Answer

Don't take the pills: Recent studies reveal that calcium from calcium-rich foods causes fewer heart attacks than calcium pills.  One should also look for vitamin k deficiency by testing for osteocalcin.  If high, one should take vitamin k supplement.  Vitamin k deficiency is associated with increased osteoporosis and arteriosclerosis.  There is no evidence yet that vitamin k can reduce aortic valve calcification.

Aortic dissection?: If you survive the aortic tear, it will not weaken the immune system.

Accepted Answer

Not usual: Not really. Typical symptoms of severe aortic stenosis are chest pain/pressure, shortness of breath and passing out. Fatigue may be seen. Cardiac chest pain may be felt as sensation of stomach gas or heart burn, but not actual gas.

Time will tell: The clinical study you are participating in should give us more information on the efficacy of the Sapien valve vs open heart.  "Better" has a lot to do with long term outcomes (like the number of complications such as infection or valve tearing free and how patients compare in terms of overall quality of life) between the 2 treatments.  For now, "better" depends on your surgeon's experience.

Probably no problem: The valves of the heart are like one-way doors or gates. They open and close to direct the flow of blood into and out of the heart . The aortic valve is able to open and close because it has leaflets. In a normal aortic valve there are three leaflets, and because of this it is called trileaflet. During life the size of the aorta increases. The normal expansion rate is about 1–2 mm/year.

i have an artifical aorta due to surgery in 2005and i've been taking liquid zeolite for high lead expose. can the zeolite damage the artificial valve?

Probably not but...: I know of no evidence that zeolie can damage artificial valves. Based on my understanding of its size ; how it works i believe this would be very unlikely. However, like many supplements, there has been very little research on the safety ; effectiveness of liquid zeolite. I've seen it lower levels of heavy metals in many patients ; consider it safe but no one knows for sure! http://bit.Ly/1azbo7s.

Calcification: Aortic valve calcification does not require any treatment at all. Aortic valve stenosis (blockage) only requires treatment when it becomes critical and causes symptoms. There's no medication that will stop calcification.  Only surgery when necessary.

is mod to sever aorta stenosis with peak/mean pressure gradient of 57.06mmhg/37.30mmh requiring aorta valve replacement stat?

Accepted Answer

It could be: It depends upon whether symptoms are present.  If the aortic stenosis is causing chest pain, congestive heart failure, shortness of breath or blackouts then this is usually regarded as a reason for prompt treatment.  If there are no symptoms then watchful waiting is sometimes appropriate.  BTW some patients in this age group qualify to have the valve implanted through a catheter via the groin.
