It is not uncommon: to have a lower sided back pain with the urinary tract infection.

Drink plenty of fluids and dont hold urine for longer periods of time.

Cranberry tabs: Best option is to call your clinician.  Many offices have protocol to treat UTIs over the phone in young healthy established patients with classic symptoms. Otherwise, can try cranberry tabs (mixed evidence), pyridium (phenazopyridine) of burning/urgency, and plenty of water.  See you dr asap if symptoms persist or worsen.

could there be an underlying problem i have with my uti? i've been to urgent care twice with symptoms of a uti. but i continued to have back pain.

Not related: The UTI and back pain are probably not related. You do not get back pain from a bladder infection which is what most UTIs are. You only get back pain when the infection moves to the kidneys and that is a much more serious diagnosis, pyelonephritis. Your back pain is probably musculoskeletal. See a physical therapist or try yoga for relief.

Yes: A UTI also known as a bladder infection can spread up the ureters to the kidneys which rest inside your ribcage.

See details: The back pain is likely unrelated to a UTI. Have the urine cultured to determine if you really have a continued infection.

Pelvic infection: See your gynecologist for an exam; you could have a sexually transmitted infection.  This can happen even if you and your partner have not had any symptoms.  You need an exam and for cultures to be taken.  Antibiotics will help.

i think i have a uti and diarrhoea. when trying to go to the bathroom, i have involuntary spasms which are causing back pain. is this normal?

: During a routine bout of diarrhea, it is not unusual to have spasms of the colon, and it is definitely possible that these could cause back pain. Take your Rx: When we overused antibiotics, we allow candida to grow.  Make sure there is no diabetes.

Failed antibiotic?: Contact your doctor to rule out that urinary tract infection has in fact progressed to kidney infection.
