Yes: Are the headaches only without the glasses? If so, you really should wear them: either get frames that you like and are happy wearing, or see if mom will go for contact lenses.

Rapid vision loss?: If there is rapid vision loss, it's not likely macular degeneration. You need an urgent eye exam.

Probably not.: Generally, one gets nearsighted between the ages of 5 to 15, gets worse until the late teens or early 20s and then stabilizes.  It usually does not get better. Wearing or not wearing glasses will not change the outcome.

A : A refractive cataract surgery or refractive lensectomy (removal of the natural lens before a cataract develops) can eliminate or greatly reduce myopia or nearsightedness.  If there is a further change in the refractive error in the future it will very likely be a small one.  It is difficult in medicine to ever promise a patient a permanent soluton, since unusual things can happen.

left alone for now, how would i see up close and at what distance would i need to wear glasses.

Near glasses: I assume that your left eye sees well and the right eye is corrected for distance.  After healing you can see at near with over the counter reading glasses of +2.50  to  + 3.00 power.  You would need these for near and nothing for distance with these criteria.

Possibly: to correct refractive errors and astigmatism. Consult with your ophthalmologist.

Mostly good: Almost all of us have such an experience since sunglasses are almost a universal need.  
For those who need the corrective focusing power of lenses, it generally feels good to be wearing them.  But glasses are a bit of a nuisance  so many switch to contacts or have lasik surgery;.

Annoying eyeglasses: Discomfort wearing eyeglasses can be due to many reasons.  Eye glasses can cause visual distortions and perception issues.  Depending on the prescription, images can be smaller, larger , more elongated or slanted.  If the problem is present only with a recent prescription, see your eye doctor to see if adjustments in your prescription can be made.

When you need them: Based on your vision requirements. If you are driving, wear the glasses. If you are lounging on the couch, you don't need to. Be well.
