Very small: Although no contraceptive is perfect, If there have been no missed pills, the risk of pregnancy is less than 1%.  Pregnancy tests can be checked on pills.  Missing a period while on birth control pills is an expected side effect and is not a problem.

Yes: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, or medications. A correctly done urine test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon.

Repeat test.: Pills do not influence pregnancy test.  If you are pregnant the test will be positive at five days after the missed period.  If you test earlier than that you may be falsely negative. Do not repeat testing too frequently.

Not unusual: This scenario is not uncommon with very low dose pills which will give a yellow or brown one day discharge or none at all for a period. The bleeding on the oral contraceptive pill is simply hormonal withdrawal bleeding to let you know when to start the next pack and is not a "real period" caused by the pituitary gland.

Trust the test: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.  If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

Wait: BCP's if taken according to the directions are extraordinarily effective at what they claim to do (over 99 %). Of course if you skip doses or don't follow the directions exactly they don't work as well.  The best pregnancy tests will pick up a pregnancy five days after the fertilized egg implants in the wall of the uterus. As always tests can be wrong.

Multiple issues:: GYN exam is needed. You need a pelvic exam, PAP, female and thyroid hormone studies and fasting blood sugar with HbA1c levels.

Tests are accurate: Birth control pills, when taken each day at about the same time, are still working to prevent pregnancy, regardless of whether the withdrawal bleeding is lighter than expected, heavier than expected, or intentionally prevented. However, if the withdrawal bleeding is unintentionally missing, one can check a home urine pregnancy test (accurate by 3 weeks after sex).
