why would my tb test blood come back inconclusive?

It happens sometimes: Quantiferon TB blood tests look at one's white blood cells to see if they remember being in contact with TB germs. If her cells act healthily but don't react more excitedly when put into a simulated TB environment, that's a negative test. If her cells get very excited and active in a simulated TB environment, that's a positive test. Results that are "in between" are inconclusive. May retest later.

TB Test: there can be several reasons why a TB test takes longer to reactt..If you do have a large reaction as you describe you should go back to your doctors office to show it to them as theymay decide it is a delayed positive test

Positive PPD: A positive TB skin test should be followed up with a chest xray.  If both are positive for findings, one should be treated and followed by an infectious disease specialist and take medications.  False positive skin tests can occur if previously vaccinated against TBor  infected with TB-like organisms.  Improper technique or interpretation of reaction are other causes of false positives.

Yes: For a person with a positive PPD skin test and a negative chest x-ray, if he had a BCG vaccine in the past, he can do a Quantiferon TB blood test to see if he was exposed to real TB or just to the BCG shot. If he never had a BCG, he can talk with his doctor to decide if he should take INH pills or do the TB blood test. If it is not certain he truly was positive on the skin test, he can repeat it.

Could be: Not necessarily linked,  but depending upon what the symptoms are,  they could be linked.  Seeing neurologist and/or investors disease specialist?

: Yes, it is safe to repeat the test. If you had a skin test, you could use the results, verified by your doctor and present those to the new organization. A blood test can be used instead to the usual skin test.

Hello. : Hello. You can have an overlying are of redness, that doesn't mean the test is positive. I always used the ball point pen method to read the TB test. You gently move the pen back and forth to determine where there is underlying induration.  Being PPD positive and having tuberculosis are two very different things. Please have him talk to the person who administered the test to find out the result.  You are checking for inducation and not color. Take care.

had a heavy cough w/ bloody musuc over 1 yr now. gets worse when on my back. had ct xray & tb tests done. no results. not bronchitis. ?

Bronchitis, maybe: The stuff you cough up is of concern. Bloody mucous may be a sign of pneumonia, as well as other things such as cancer etc. it is best you get the results of those tests and begin your treatment as soon as possible .best talk to your doctor

Symptoms: Watch for signs of TB, follow up with your physician. A chest image may be indicated to document that there is a normal chess x Ray. The test documents exposure to the bacteria.

Very often: You may have been exposed but not infected. Or this can be a lab error.
