How  do you know if : There is a lower hr in that person?. Two ways, by pulse or by ECG monitor. If there is no pulse anywhere and the person have electrical activity by ECG and there is unresponsiveness, you are in pulseless electrical activity( pea). And CPR need to be started.

Your : Your aunt most likely misunderstood the doctor. The pulse rate, which can be taken in many different locations is an indicator for the heart rate. The number is the same. 
You may want to advise your aunt to call the doctor and clarify what he meant.

Symptoms?: Slow heart beat in itself is a concern if you are symptomatic. Sounds like you inherited Dad's genes. If you are not dizzy, passing out, having shortness of breath or chest pain don't worry. If your heart rate increases normally when you are active then there is even less concern. If you do not get a heart rate increase with exercise this is called chronotropic incompetence and should be checked.

Bradycardia: I would be concerned about hypothyroidism.  This can be screened for with a simple blood test.  See your doc.

Can lower hr: Your doc will monitor your hr ; BP but not being anxious shouldn't b a problem.
