Hard to know: We really don't know when you are no longer contagious with mono, unfortunately!  But we usually tell people that about a week after they are symptom free, they are probably no longer contagious.  I would suggest waiting another week, just to be sure.

No treatment: There is no known effective treatment for epstein barr virus infection.  If a person has infectious mononucleosis those around them are at risk if they have not previously had it.

Time for a recheck: By now any spleenic enlargement should have gone down. Have your doc check, and evaluate the need for any further treatment, or if  resolver, release you to full activity.

Probably okay: Mono often causes some liver inflammation that impairs its ability to breakdown alcohol. However, that is most active in the first 3 weeks or so of the illness.By 2 months out you are likely back to your baseline in liver function.

Yes!!: It depends what test was done. It may just have shown not that you have active mono but that you had it at some time in the past. Ask your doc to explain.  The danger with mono is that it can cause your liver and spleen to enlarge and if you are very active you may bang them and injure them seriously even rupturing one or both and bleeding seriously to death.

my teenage son has mono. is it safe for him to fly? no physical was determined if he has an enlarged spleen. concerned about spleen rupture?

: He can take the flight if he is asymptomatic and feeling well but he should avoid any heavy lifting. He should wear a mask for preventing the virus spreading although most adult people already have the antibodies.

No: Without a definitive cause, the majority of cases of pancreatitis are related to alcohol ingestion.

is it safe to take hydrocodone to reduce the pain and tenderness of mono?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes it will.  However, take sparingly as most hydrocodone preparations are combined with Acetaminophen which can "stress" the liver.  Liver inflammation is present in mononucleosis.
